Professional Development

Building a Legacy Beyond College

A college experience is a powerful platform, but it is a limited window of time. Our Professional Development pillar is designed to prepare Pacific Islander students for lifelong success by equipping them with the tools, exposure, and mentorship needed to build their future. For our student-athlete participants, we help them translate the discipline, resilience, and leadership learned on the field into a compelling professional narrative and sustainable career path. For all students, we provide the practical skills and cultural grounding to navigate their transitions with confidence. Our culturally grounded approach makes it clear that strong personal and professional development enhances both current performance and long-term fulfillment.

Empowerment Workshop Series

Our comprehensive workshop series forms the core of our professional development programming. We plan to offer this 5-week series two times during the year, Spring semester and summer time, serving 50-75 students annually with approximately 10-15 students per session. Each session is an interactive, expert-led experience designed to prepare students for life beyond college. We also plan to offer a 3-week Battle Ready workshop, facilitated by our M3H2 partners—an intensive character development program teaching proper positioning and movement to overcome challenges. Builds mental toughness, resilience, and performance across life, academics, and relationships.

The Five Weekly Topics:

Week 1: Financial Literacy: Master the fundamentals of money management, investment basics, wealth protection, and personal financial strategies. Following the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) framework, students gain the foundation needed to build and protect their financial future.

Week 2: Business Literacy & Protection: Develop a strategic understanding of business principles, contract evaluation, and NIL guidance. Learn how to protect your financial interests when engaging with agents, advisors, and business opportunities—and how to recognize and avoid predatory practices.

Week 3: Personal Narrative & Networking (I AM): Learn to articulate your unique strengths and develop a persuasive personal story. Discover how to translate your skills and experiences into professional opportunities and build valuable networks that will serve you throughout your career.

Week 4: Global Leadership: Understand how to use your platform for advocacy and community impact. Explore leadership opportunities that connect your Pacific Islander heritage to broader social and global challenges, and learn how to be a voice for your community.

Week 5: Health & Wellness: Build mental, physical, and emotional resilience to navigate the pressures of higher education and major life transitions. Develop practical tools for maintaining wellness while reinforcing cultural identity and personal strength.
