Professional Development

Building a Legacy Beyond College

A college experience is a powerful platform, but it is a limited window of time. Our Professional Development pillar is designed to prepare Pacific Islander students for lifelong success by equipping them with the tools, exposure, and mentorship needed to build their future. For students who are also athletes, we help them translate the discipline, resilience, and leadership learned in college into a compelling professional narrative and sustainable career path. For all students, we provide the practical skills and cultural grounding to navigate their transitions with confidence. Our culturally grounded approach makes it clear that strong personal and professional development enhances both current performance and long-term fulfillment.

Empowerment Workshop Series

Our workshop series forms the core of our professional development programming, offered twice yearly during the Spring semester and summer. Each session is an interactive, expert-led experience designed to prepare students for life beyond college.

The series is organized in two parts:

Part 1 — Be Battle Ready (Weeks 1–4) Facilitated by our M3H2 partners, this intensive character development program builds mental toughness, resilience, and physical and emotional wellness. Students develop practical tools for navigating the pressures of higher education and major life transitions while reinforcing cultural identity and personal strength.

Part 2 — Professional Development Workshops (Weeks 5–7)

Week 5: Financial Literacy — Master the fundamentals of personal finance through a practical, real-world lens. From understanding how taxes work to managing income, building wealth through tax-advantaged accounts, and protecting yourself from predatory financial advisors, this session gives students the financial foundation most people wish they had learned earlier. Topics are grounded in the realities Pacific Islander students navigate, including family financial expectations and building generational wealth sustainably.

Week 6: Business Literacy & Protection — Develop a strategic understanding of business principles, contract evaluation, and personal brand guidance. Learn how to protect your financial interests when engaging with agents, advisors, and business opportunities — and how to recognize and avoid predatory practices.

Week 7: Personal Narrative & Networking (I AM) — Learn to articulate your unique strengths and develop a compelling personal story. Discover how to translate your skills and experiences into professional opportunities and build valuable networks that will serve you throughout your career.

Coming in a future series — Week 8: Global Leadership: Understand how to use your platform for advocacy and community impact. Explore leadership opportunities that connect your Pacific Islander heritage to broader social and global challenges, and learn how to be a voice for your community.
